FAQs

What is the difference between a Service Dog and a Therapy Dog?

A Service Dog is task-trained specifically to aid an individual person with a disability. A Therapy Dog is trained to be well behaved and provide comfort to multiple people. Service dogs have public access, which means they can accompany their handler in public places even when pet dogs are not allowed. Therapy dogs are only allowed in public when invited, for example to hospitals or assisted living facilities.

How can I certify my dog as a Therapy Dog?

It varies from organization to organization. The organization we certify our dogs through requires six training classes, the dog must pass the Canine Good Citizenship test and a temperament test, and must do a minimum of ten supervised therapy visits with another therapy dog team. We highly recommend going through an organization that provides insurance for their therapy dog teams. For more information, please reach out through our contact page.

Will you help me train my dog?

We would love to help you! Check out the resources tab for all of the information we share with new clients looking to learn more about how to train. If you would like to consult with one of our trainers, please check out the "Training" page for additional information and pricing.

Why do you utilize force-free and fear-free training methods only?

The simple answer is the science! We follow the best practices set out by people with PhDs in peer-reviewed literature. It all boils down to the same thing: dogs are at their best when trained using force-free and fear-free methods. For more information, please review the resources page.

I hear you offer boarding for challenging dogs?

On a case by case basis, we do offer boarding for dogs that may have special needs and/or have difficulty being boarded elsewhere. We are located on a farm that will allow your dog plenty of space to enjoy themselves until you return. Please reach out through our contact page for more information.

Are you able to evaluate my dog for AKC's Canine Good Citizenship certification?

Yes! We would be happy to evaluate your dog for their Canine Good Citizenship certification. There have been some changes to the program due to COVID-19, please reach out through our contact page for the most up to date information on how we are conducting these evaluations.
